More than 60 Million Americans are Completely Sedentary Study Says
According to a recent study conducted by the Physical Activity Council (PAC), more than 60 million people in the United States are completely and totally inactive.
What’s scarier is that “… 34 percent of the inactive people are between 6 and 34 years of age,” said Tom Cove, president/CEO of the Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association (SGMA), the managing partner of PAC.
Cove said the data, however, shows that the sedentary folk do want to become more active but, according to the study’s results, aren’t sure how to get started. In this year’s study, participants were asked what kinds of activities (either outdoors or sports related) they’d like to participate in. According to the Outdoor Foundation Press Release:
“The answers to these questions show there is a clear desire by Americans to participate in a number of fitness, sports and outdoor activities, but they just don’t know where to start. … The survey results prove that people want to ‘get off the sidelines’ and participate, but might need a bit of a push to get going.”
The good news–resulting from the study–is that a whopping 245 million Americans are active and have found the motivation and means to “get going.”
