New Music Monday: Deer Tick
For this weeks New Music Monday post, we’re featuring Deer Tick, a Rhode Island based band bringing us a raw, and honest combination of country, punk, blues, folk, grunge and garage rock.
Deer Tick is, admitedly, not “new” having formed in 2004, and released their first full-length CD in 2008 titled War Elephant, followed by three more in ’09 (Born on Flag Day) & ’10 (Black Dirt Sessions)…not to mention a slew of vinyl & limited edition cuts. They are, however, finally seeming to gain more national attention, having made an appearance on David Letterman 6/17/10:
In his biography on the band’s website, Finbarr Bermingham gives an awesome description of their live presence…”In the flesh, these guys sound completely different than they do through your speakers. It sounds like a lazy observation to make, but when Deer Tick play live, they sound live. They sound louder, rawer and more raucous than anyone who’s heard their records could’ve thought possible. They improvise, they play requests, they invite people onto the stage, they throw balls to the wall, and it all sticks.”
If you’re hoping to catch these guys live, check out their tour dates to find out when they’ll be in your area next. We’ve added them to our Trailblazer Radio mix, but if you like what you heard here, you’ll definitely also want to check out their CD’s & Vinyl available online.
