Falling under the "not so new, but deserves much more attention" category, this week's New Music Monday feature is the Ryan Montbleau Band. These guys have been working their tails off over the past few years, playing on average, 200 gigs/year, according to their band bio. Though their sound is a uniquely new sound of their own, their music is rooted in Americana, folk, blues, ragtime and ’70’s R&B and soul.
Front man, Ryan Montbleau, hails from Boston, Massachusetts, and got his start playing local coffee shops & folk venues. He recorded his first CD, Begin, in 2002, followed by Stages in 2003. While establishing himself as a solo artist with his "infectious, percussive, fingerpicking guitar style", he eventually gathered an amazing group of artists to form the Ryan Montbleau Band, including: Matt Giannaros (acoustic upright bass, electric bass, vocals), Laurence Scudder (viola), Jason Cohen (piano, organ, clavinet, Rhodes, Moog) and James Cohen (drums).
Their first album, One Fine Color, was released in 2006, followed by Patience on Friday in 2007. Their next album is due out this coming September, and we can hardly wait to see what they have in store. The band is recording homemade videos for all 14 songs, and releasing one a week up to its release. Here's the first of 14...
