Shoreline Greenway Ribbon-Cutting and Bike Ride
Hammonasset Beach State Park and Shoreline Greenway Trail invite you to celebrate the opening of the “walkway across the marsh,” a key link in the Hammonasset Section of the Shoreline Greenway Trail. This 220 foot long boardwalk was built by volunteers over a tidal marsh. Following a brief program, guests are invited to walk across the walkway and explore the Shoreline Greenway Trail in the Park or join the continuation of the Connecticut State Park Centennial SoJourn* with a 21-mile bicycle ride to Farm River State Park in East Haven.
The event will take place Thursday, August 22, 2013 at 10:00 AM at the entrance to the walkway besides the Park entrance road. Dan Esty, Commissioner of the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) will be on hand as a special guest along with other state and local dignitaries. In case of rain, festivities will be held in a Park pavilion. For question contact Laurie Giannotti via email at firstname.lastname@example.org
*To celebrate the centennial of the Connecticut State Parks, CT DEEP is planning a Centennial SoJourn (Summer Outdoor Journey), a 10-day trek across Connecticut by bike, kayak, train, and on foot. A core group of 20 people will make the journey from state to finish traveling about 20 miles each day. Everyone is invited to join the journey along the way and celebrate 100 years of Connecticut State Parks! For more information go to http://www.ct.gov/DEEP
