Favorite aspect of the product:

My first pair of barefoot running shoes were the Merrell Trail Gloves. They went through Tough Mudders, Warrior Dashes, and every day running. They were my go to shoe until I started training for GORUCK Challenges. With the GORUCKs you have to carry bricks in your backpack over many miles for multiple hours. As much as I loved my barefoot shoes I decided that I need some cushioning again and decided to try out some minimalists. The Merrell Mix Master Move provides 9mm of cushion with a 4mm drop. When carrying a ruck that weighs 30lbs along with a 40lb sandbag having some cushioning underfoot is much appreciated.

Even when not rucking I like to use my Mix Masters. With all of the extreme heat we have had this summer it is great to have a shoe that is very breathable. The mesh lining, which is treated with Aegis antimicrobial solution, enables sweat to escape the shoe easier than other sneakers. This leaves my feet feeling not as hot during and after my runs.  With the hotter weather and the longer runs with weight I have been doing, I also have enjoyed the larger toe box area. My feet have experienced a lot more swelling with my activities lately and the large toe box allows room for my feet to swell and my toes to not feel like they are jammed up.

With all minimalists shoes you will need to take some time to transition to them if you are not use to running in them. I have been running in barefoot and minimalist shoes for a few years so I didn’t have any transition or break-in time. For people looking to make the transition from a traditional running shoe to a minimalist the Mix Master Move is a great shoe for that. You will still have cushioning and a little bit of a heel to toe drop. When transitioning take your time. Do shorter time or mileage at first as your lower legs get use to going through a fuller range of motion. The Mix Master Move will let you get out there and hit the pavement, trail, or your next obstacle course race or mud run.

How it fits:

True to size. The toe box is a bit on the wide side. This is done to allow your toes to splay out more as you step off.
