Running Motivation: Top 10 Best Online Communities for Runners

With the plethora of running information out on the web right now, it can be pretty overwhelming for someone looking for some running information to know where to go.

The following is a list of  10 popular running websites to go to for information, motivation, and inspiration.

GENERAL RUNNING INFO:

The following two websites have a plethora of running information.

Active.com Running

Active.com Runner is a great place to find information on training, gear, health, nutrition, forums, and running feature stories and news.  You can even check out the featured events calendar for races and marathons happening across the U.S.

FACEBOOK:  Active.com’s General Facebook Page (no specific page for running)

TWITTER:  @Activenetwork (again, not running specific, but worth following)

Cool Running

Cool Running has an extensive training section which offers tips and advice on fitness, performance, running programs, and aches and pains.  The other great thing about this site is that you can find news, forums, and cool resources like running calculators, running logs, and access to race reports and running clubs

TRACKING YOUR TRAINING:

I am a track-a-holic.  I like to know how far I went how fast, look at where I ran and what the elevation change was.  And I really like to tell people about it.  These sites let me do that.

Daily Mile

Daily Mile is the Facebook of the running world – it is a social training log for runners, triathletes, bikers, and other athletes of all levels.  With Daily Mile, you can map and log your workouts and receive support and feed back from other runners.  By sharing your training with friends, you stay motivated.

Map My Run

Map My Run is not as fun as Daily Mile (friend-wise), but is a great tool if you are traveling somewhere and looking for a running route.  There are routes mapped out all over the country.  One advantage to Map My Run over Daily Mile is that Map My Run provides an elevation profile.

MAGAZINES W/GREAT WEBSITES:

Two magazines that have really informative websites full of forums, professionals blogs, articles, and race information are Runners World and Running Times.

Runners World

Runners World is a very popular running magazine and this site has everything running, offering help with training, nutrition, and motivation.  You can check out profiles of shoes and gear and see a list of upcoming U.S. races. This is a site with mass appeal for runners of all levels.

Running Times

Running Times is similar to Runners World, except that its content is written by and geared toward competitive runners.  A bit of history – Rodale, Inc, the owners of Runner’s World bought Running Times in 2007.

BLOGS:

I am a blogger, I love to read blogs.  I find it entertaining to read about what people kind of like me (but faster) have done and nod in agreement, twinge in sympathy, shout out some support, and laugh my head off.  Sometimes I even learn a thing or two.  These are four of my favorite running blogs that let me do all of that and more.

RunnerDude

Runner Dude always has terrific information for all running levels, is a pretty funny guy, and often has some great give-aways.
