Review: The North Face Women’s Cipher Hybrid Hoodie
Review: Women’s Cipher Hybrid Hoodie By: Karyn Choromanski
I love rock climbing! Before this summer, I was strictly an indoor climber, so elements were never an issue.
But this past July, I spent three weeks in the wilderness of the Wind River Range in Wyoming for an outdoor rock climbing course. Since the name of the location indicated a threat of wind, I figured I’d go hunting for a jacket that I could climb in, and would protect me from the elements most present in the Winds.
The first time I tried on the Cipher Hybrid Hoodie, I fell in love! The feel to this jacket is just heavenly. The jacket has a nice stretch to it so that I could contort my body to any position I may need to during a climb. The size was true to fit and very flattering; however I did go a size up just in case I needed to put on additional layers underneath.
The Cipher did its job beautifully, and I looked beautiful while it was doing its job. On the windy, temperate days, I put it on and climbed my hardest. Its soft shell accomplished the goal of stopping the wind from penetrating my body and kept me feeling comfortable temperature and movement wise. And any climber knows that there are days at the crag when the wind just wants to bite. I especially enjoyed the fact that this jacket had a hood and that it fit right over my climbing helmet, which was a blessing to keep my ears away from the wind. The hood has an elastic bound edge that held it to my helmet so it would not move around and it never interfered with my line of vision, a big plus. The jacket also has molded cuff tabs that can be adjusted so that the jacket sleeves don’t slide over your hands, great for a climb, and so that the wind doesn’t get up your sleeves!
The jacket showed its durability for these demanding 3 weeks in the windy range of Wyoming. I can see no damage, and it can still stop wind to perfection. The Cipher Hybrid Hoodie Jacket is a perfect jacket for someone who needs to stop the wind and still be able to move around with ease. It is a Summit Series piece for a reason. A must have!
