Follow the trip and everything Trailblazer on our Facebook page!

This week marks the beginning of my cross country drive, starting in this lovely state I grew up in, Connecticut, and ending up in, Los Angeles, California.

It’s exciting, scary, sad, and joyous all at the same time. For those of you who’ve moved away from family and close friends, I’m sure you know what I’m talking about. For those that haven’t, I’m sure you’ve said plenty of good bye’s to those that have. There’re so many emotions that go along with a move like this.

Given the season we are currently in, I chose to take the southern route with the warmer climate for this time of year. I’ve done this type of trip before, but chose to take the middle and upper routes. This time around it will be my first time seeing areas of our country like New Mexico and Texas. I’ve also never been to the Grand Canyon, which is something I’m looking forward to as a highlight of this trip.

So, after weeks of preparation, delays, and shipping my life out to California in large boxes, I’ll be departing to venture into a new life.

I’m a sucker for a great view. CT will be hard to top.

But first, I want to invite you to join me from afar in the journey I’ll be capturing along the way.

Along for the ride with me will be my girlfriend, Catherine. She’ll also be helping me document our travels, as we have some great activities already planned.

So, from this point on and in the coming days, stay tuned to our Trailblazer Facebook page. There, I’ll be doing my best to keep everyone up on the real time traveling, activities, music, and destinations, we are about to embark on.

Check out the the route we are planning to take below and please leave any suggestions of activities, parks, or events you think we should check out along the way!

See you soon CT!

What Food Should You Take Hiking?

by TonyDasilva February 12, 2013 Camp
Thumbnail image for What Food Should You Take Hiking?

Hiking consumes calories – that’s a no-brainer, really. But it also means you should have food with you to replace some of those calories when you take breaks on your walk. Now, obviously that doesn’t meant loading down your backpack with burgers and chips. You want food that’s going to give you energy, and also [...]

I think when I first started running barefoot (and by barefoot, I mean in Vibrams) and was doing research and reading blogs about it, I came across a lot of articles about barefoot runners comparing how dirty their feet get. If you head over to the Runner’s World Barefoot Running forum, you’ll not only get [...]

Breathing While Running

by TonyDasilva February 6, 2013 Barefoot Running

Learning the proper breathing techniques while running is as important to a runner as stretching beforehand or the proper motion of the body while running to prevent injuries. Improper breathing exercises while running results in a shorter run, becoming winded or out of breath faster and more stress on the body during the run. Keeping those breathing [...]

Thumbnail image for It’s Complicated: 5 Puzzling International Borders

Most of us think of international borders as invisible, but clear-cut lines: stand on one side, and you’re in one country; stand on the other, you’re in another country. But here’s a list of five international borders that, for one reason or another, are not quite that simple. 1. The Indian Exclave in Bangladesh That [...]

A Professional Climbers Broken Confidence

by TonyDasilva January 25, 2013 Climb

By: Paige Claassen Confidence is a rarity in the climbing world. Many may disagree, using blogs and shirtless macho’s in gyms as counter evidence. However, perhaps these things are signs of egos, which in fact lack confidence. I know I’m guilty of more than one of the aforementioned offenses. It’s not that these things are always bad, but they often turn [...]
