Employee Spotlight: Ashley Phillips
Your Name & Store:
Ashley Phillips. Marketing Assistant.
How do you spend your days?
I generally spend my days with music playing in the background, while cooking something on the stove. I hate silence, and love food.
What are your hobbies?
Going to as many concerts as I can, traveling the world (aka starring at groupon for hours on end drooling over the vacations I can’t afford yet) and cooking.
The best meal I’ve ever had was?
Let me preface by saying this is the hardest question to answer, ever. After a great deal of thought, I’ll go ahead and paint you a picture of what I finally landed on. I’m in Madrid with my best friend, right after I just graduated college (funny enough, that friend actually skipped her graduation to have this European adventure of culinary delight). We went to the Mercado San Miguel, which is a huge market with dozens, and dozens of vendors eager for you to try a bite here and there. In my opinion, the best meals involve as much food as possible, and variety. We tried fresh oysters, pastries, shrimp, cheese, everything. And all for about one or two euros each! The best part of it though, and I still have dreams about it, was the last thing we got before we left. It was a little crostini topped with fresh salmon, gruyere cheese, dill sauce and topped tomato and onion. It was perfection. It was something that could be so simple in America, but made with the freshest ingredients in Spain.
What superhero power do you wish you had?
Teleportation, obviously. I could travel the world for free. First stop, Thailand!
Piece of gear that you couldn’t live without?
A big water bottle. I get overheated very easily and get dehydrated fairly easy, sadly.
If you could be any animal what would you be?
I always have compared myself to a giraffe. We’re both tall. I “get” them.
This is almost as difficult of a question as the favorite meal question. I daydream about vacations all the time. I’ve had the privilege to travel around Europe, but there are still countless places I still want to explore. I think I’ve narrowed down my top five most desired vacation spots to: Thailand (ride an elephant? yes please), Germany (Oktoberfest), Prague (highly recommended from friends), Peru(Machu Picchu), and Japan (sushi, sushi, and more sushi.)
If you were to write a book about yourself, what would the title be?
The Struggles Of A Girl Desperately Trying To Become The Female Anthony Bourdain.
