I finally broke down last year and decided to get a women’s specific bag. After researching I ended up with a Deuter ACT Trail bag. I’m tall so I never needed a bag with a shorter torso, but I do have narrow shoulders. What caught my attention was the shoulder straps were closer together, they were narrower, and had an S-shape to them. This makes carrying a load for several hours more comfortable. There are many times when I find myself jogging along a trail and the women’s specific straps really can cinch down so there is little movement of the bag.
The Deuter ACT Trail 20L SL Pack also comes with Deuter’s Aircontact Back System. The highlight of this system is the air channel between the Aircontact cushions. By having raised cushions not all of your back comes in contact with the bag. This helps to reduce the amount of sweating that occurs on your bag. Having this feature is especially nice on hot summer hikes.
Some other aspects I really like:
- Anatomical shaped hip belt with small pocket to store nutrition such as GU or ClifBars
- Hydration compatible hose opening comes out of the middle so you can choose which side you put your hose on
- Integrated, detachable rain cover for when you get caught in a rain shower
- Large side pocket to put bug spray and sunscreen keeping them separate from everything else
