Rock to Rock Earth Day Ride

by Amy on March 27, 2013

Event: 5th Annual Rock to Rock Earth Day Ride

When: Saturday April 20, 2013

What better way to spend Earth Day weekend then taking a bike ride with 1000 of your friends, family, and complete strangers? You will have a chance to explore New Haven and surrounding areas all while raising money for 20 high-impact local environmental groups. These groups work to create a healthier, greener community.

Riders have three options of rides to take part in, all starting at Common Ground at the base of West Rock Park. All rides end at College Woods at East Rock, but how you get there is up to you. There are 8 mile, 20 mile, and metric century routes to choose from. You can find maps of each route located on the Rock to Rock website. Depending on your path of the day, you will get a mix of back roads, city streets, small towns, and greenspaces. Visit Sleeping Giant on the 20 mile route or Lighthouse Park along the metric century. To keep you going throughout your ride there will be yummy food and good music. When you finally meander to East Rock Park you will be able to take part in a finishing celebration. There will be a “green expo” including food from local vendors, music by CT Folk, and outdoor games to play.

Registration for the event is $30 for adults and $15 for those 18 and under. As you register and ride you can remember that you are helping plant hundreds of street trees, fight for clean air, cultivate farmer’s markets, and getting 10,000 city kids outside. As Rock to Rock says, “We’re in this together: 1 planet. 1 community.”
