Post image for Connecticut to California: Part 5 – Page, AZ Mountain Biking

If you’ve been following my cross-country road trip thus far, then you know the last stop I made I reached out to you from The Painted Desert and Petrified Forest.

From that point on, we met a random knowledgable bartender in Sante Fe that suggested Page, AZ. He showed us some pics of some of the best red rock canyons I’d ever seen. I then looked up the location and saw the town had built one long mountain bike single track trail that loops the outskirts of the entire town along the rim it sits upon.

We were headed to Zion National Park and looked on the map and saw that Page was actually on the way. So, a new temporary stop was born. The town itself sits on top of a mesa overlooking Lake Powell, and the Glen Canyon Dam.  The trail, true to its name follows the rim of the mesa, offering spectacular views.

This Rim Trail, which it is called, may not be the most difficult terrain, but it definitely had it’s moments of sheer terror. At certain points and without warning, the trail would wind to points that would have me riding inches from falling down massive cravasses and 90 degree angled cliff sides. Sure, the views were top notch, but that didn’t help my blood pressure.

In the end, I made it out alive, a little freaked out, but happily looking back on one of the best bike experiences I’ve ever had. If you’re ever in this part of the country, take your bike or just some hiking shoes, and enter Page, AZ.

Check out some of the pics I took from the ride, from cliffside to panoramic views, below.
