Post image for Injured CT Hiker Rescued From Case Mountain

This week, a local 34 year-old fell and was injured and trapped while hiking Case Mountain, right here on Connecticut. I was driving away from a personal hike up at West Rock, in New Haven, when I heard the news on the radio. I’m the same age and wondered if it was the bizarro me that had such bad luck, on this specific day. Check out the full story below. – Tony

Manchester and Glastonbury firefighters teamed up to locate and rescue an injured hiker from Case Mountain Monday afternoon.

A 34-year-old man was hiking alone Monday afternoon when he lost his footing and fell down an embankment. The hiker was injured from the fall, but was able to call 9-1-1 from his cell phone. The hiker’s name was not released.

Around 4:30pm, firefighters were dispatched to locate the injured man. Glastonbury firefighters had an all-terrain vehicle available, and responded to assist in the rescue.

There were a total of 25 people looking for the injured hiker between firefighters and the Manchester Community Emergency Response Team. The hiker was able to stay on the phone with the 9-1-1 dispatcher, and he was able to give helpful information on his whereabouts for rescuers.

By 5:25pm, the hiker was found by the rescue team. Firefighters gave him emergency medical treatment, and carried back up the embankment onto the main trail. He was then transported off the mountain on the ATV, and taken by ambulance to Manchester Memorial Hospital for treatment of his injuries. He is expected to be OK.

Firefighters remind hikers to…

  • utilize the buddy system
  • carry plenty of water
  • carry maps and know where you are at all times
  • carry a cell phone for emergencies
  • tell a family member or friend where you will be hiking
  • leave a note in your vehicle in the parking area stating where you will be hiking or biking
