Post image for New Music Monday: Katie Herzig

Songs by today’s New Music Monday feature may sound familiar to you, even if you’ve never heard of her before.  Katie Herzig is a rising star in the indie music scene, having set out on her own in 2006 in Nashville (she was previously front woman for Colorado-based band Newcomers Home) In the last few years, her songs have been featured on NPR, KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic, Frito Lay and Honda commercials and many television shows including several episodes of television’s highest rated drama, Grey’s Anatomy, yet she still maintains a unique and sometimes haunting musical style all her own.

Her current band consists of Claire Indie (cello) and Jordan Hamlin (guitar, ukelele, accordion), and the three of them are making music that is “at once playful and impassioned–challenging and comfortable—intimate and epic…”  Already with four albums under her belt, there’s plenty of great music for us to enjoy, and if you’re looking for a “best of” option, her newest CD “Live in Studio: Acoustic Trio” contains some of our faves, with a more intimate sound.

If you like what you here, here are links to help you connect with & keep up with Katie:

Today’s New Music Monday feature is a band that has, undoubtedly, already become a local favorite for those of you local to the Connecticut music scene: The McLovins. This incredible trio of…dare I say-”prodigies”…is young (16 & 17 years old), but pumps out jams that are on par with some of the biggest names in [...]

I’ve been so excited to write today’s New Music Monday post, because it’s officially countdown time to the release of a new album from one of my absolute “faves”, Shawn Mullins. Shawn has been a prolific songwriter on the folk/blues/americana scene for some time now, but is best known for his Top 10 hit “Lullaby,” [...]

This week’s New Music Monday feature is a fabulous “urban roots” band called Po’ Girl.  It’s tough to come up with a specific description of the Po’ Girl sound because this talented group seems to reinvent themselves with every song.  Rich vocal harmonies and an incredible range of traditional-to-very-unique instruments are the delivery vehicles of [...]

Why, you get Christina Courtin silly! This Talk Stoop interview with her gives such a great intro, we’ll just let it do the talking: [...]

Falling under the “not so new, but deserves much more attention” category, this week’s New Music Monday feature is the Ryan Montbleau Band.  These guys have been working their tails off over the past few years, playing on average, 200 gigs/year, according to their band bio.   Though their sound is a uniquely new sound of [...]

For this weeks New Music Monday post, we’re featuring Deer Tick, a Rhode Island based band bringing us a raw, and honest combination of country, punk, blues, folk, grunge and garage rock. Deer Tick is, admitedly, not “new” having formed in 2004, and released their first full-length CD in 2008 titled War Elephant, followed by [...]

We are kicking off our New Music Monday series with an incredibly unique band called Hoots & Hellmouth…we love these guys for their alt-country-acoustic-folk-jam band style that can’t really be compared to anything else.  Their “new music for old souls” is worth a million listens, but nothing can compare to their on-stage presentation.  Standing atop [...]
