Run

On May 19th there will be a road race supporting the Larry Pontbriant Athletic Safety Fund. Larry passed away suddenly at the age of 15 due to Sudden Cardiac Arrest while taking part in a community 3 mile fun run. This excellent road race, with an appreciated ten dollar donation, provides AEDs to schools and community facilities throughout eastern Connecticut. This race begins at the Norwich Free Academy, where Larry went to school as a freshman. There will be plenty of raffles, small games, and food and refreshments being sold throughout the day. This race is perfect to all ages and walkers are always welcome. There is also a 0.25 and 1 mile kids run.

I am a senior at the Norwich Free Academy, and have been volunteering as well as running in the race for the past four years out of the five years it has been held. This year I plan on running it with the Trailblazer Mohegan Sun squad, this should sure be interesting! The 5K course begins right off of the beautiful NFA campus, and heads up the hill towards Mohegan Park where the majority of the course is held. You will experience a few hills, both up and down, before you walk or run around the pond where the wonderful water station is placed. Please feel free to splash the volunteers at the water station, they will absolutely love it. This race has a very friendly atmosphere and we would all love for everyone to enjoy this experience with us. Don’t forget to buy an awesome Larry Run t-shirt before they sell out. Hope to see you there. Come support the Larry Fund and get your exercise on!

Yours Truly,

Patrick Lewis – Mohegan Sun Trailblazer Staff

For those who are unaware of “ultras”, they are the any distance beyond a traditional marathon (26.2 miles). I decided to do the race before the New Year as a way to memorialize my mother who passed away [...]

Wendy Toth, a 30-year-old runner from New York City, has a clear mental picture of her ideal Sunday morning: I’d go for a long weekend run with my boyfriend, and then we’d stop by a café for coffee and read the paper in post-workout bliss. The only snag in her plan? Wendy’s boyfriend hates to [...]

Unless someone is bleeding, don’t stop me to talk when I am running. I am not sure how I draw people to me when I am bundled up like the kid in Christmas Story waddling out a 6 mile run, but it happens. Here is the latest example…
